7 Kitchen Gadgets & Appliances for Easier Meal Prep
Meal prep, it is the key to staying on top of your clean eating goals. But let’s be honest, meal prep can be a pain if you are spending an entire day prepping food. The food prep, chopping, cooking, grilling, roasting and packaging of your meal prep can be draining and monotonous. The alternative to weekend meal prep is the constant cooking throughout the week which isn’t much better. I used to be like you, spending my Sundays slaving away in the kitchen making healthy meals for the coming week. It wasn’t until I found a few key gadgets and appliances, that my attitude about meal prep changed. I am now spending less time meal prepping, and more time enjoying my weekend. I have multiple healthy meal options in the fridge and freezer for those mornings I am running late, as well as the, “I don’t feel like cooking” mood at dinner. I now love meal prep and I have cut my meal prep time in half, thanks to the gadgets and appliances I’m about to share with you. Take it from me, they are worth it.
The blender is a classic kitchen staple. If you enjoy following a healthy lifestyle, chances are you enjoy a refreshing smoothie from time to time. Filling it with fruit, greens, protein, flaxseed, chia seeds, the healthy possibilities are endless! I use my blender for quick morning smoothies, as well as making soups, sauces and homemade applesauce when I have the time. If you don’t have a blender, consider getting one to make a healthy breakfast or snack smoothie throughout the day.
Vegetable spiralizers are a great way to satisfy your pasta cravings if you follow a Paleo grain-free lifestyle. I use my spiralizer multiple times a month to make zoodles (zucchini noodles) for dishes like spaghetti, shrimp scampi, chicken fettuccini. Meal prep with zoodles is much faster these days now that I have this veggie spiralizer to quickly cut my zucchini and other vegetables into pasta.
DIGITAL MEAT THERMOMETER
This digital meat thermometer has been a life-saver during my meal prep days. Often times when I am meal prepping, I am trying to cook and prep multiple meals at once, and I can easily forget about my meat cooking on the grill or in the oven. With this meat thermometer, I can now meal prep multiple dishes as once without over-cooking my meat. This handy gadget keeps track of the meat, letting me know when it is done with a beep. The cord is oven and grill safe, and there is a convenient hook on the back of the thermometer that I can clip on to my oven handle. No more dried out chicken thanks to this handy cooking gadget!
This chopper has cut my prep time in half, if not more. It quickly dices up anything from sweet potatoes, white potatoes, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and more. It has an opening at one end to allow you to easily pour your diced vegetables into a pot for cooking. It also works great for dicing up fruit for adding to recipes as well. For $20, you can’t go wrong with this meal prep gadget!
THE FOOD PROCESSOR
I use my food processor on a weekly basis. It is a quick and efficient way to slice, shred, chop and mix food together very quickly. What I used to do by hand, now only takes a matter of seconds in the food processor. I use it for shredding vegetables to put in meatballs, mixing ingredients together for Paleo dessert balls, and to turn a head of cauliflower into cauli-rice in seconds. If you are short on meal prep time, or are looking to get your meal prep done faster, a food processor may be the perfect kitchen appliance for you.
THE PRESSURE COOKER
I have had this Crockpot Express Pressure Cooker for one month, and it has already paid for itself with how many times I have used it. With 10 cooking settings, you can literally cook everything in this pressure cooker. I love that it has a timer so I won’t overcook my meals if I am off prepping another meal in another part of the kitchen. I have used this for chili, soup, sautéing vegetables, browning meat, chicken dishes and more. Each time I use it, my meat comes out perfectly moist and tender. I love that everything can be cooked in this one pot, which makes for less meal prep dishes. That is a big win in my book! For roughly half the price of an Instant Pot with the same features, why wouldn’t you add this appliance to your kitchen collection?
THE AIR FRYER
My digital air fryer has become my favorite meal prep and everyday kitchen appliance. It should really be called the air crisper in my opinion, because there is nothing fried about it. The air fryer is like a mini oven that circulates hot air around your food, cooking it evenly and giving it a nice crispy texture. I have used this to make meatballs, kale chips, sweet potato fries, zucchini chips and roasted broccoli to name a few. Of all the meal prep gadgets and appliances I use, this one is by far my favorite. I highly suggest adding an air fryer to your cooking collection, you won’t be disappointed.
